ExoPlaza Latina, a forum created by Latincouver, sets a milestone for all future elections in Vancouver.
Right in the heart of Vancouver at the Latin Plaza Hub, an unprecedented event was held on September 6th, 2018. Latincouver invited all candidates running for Mayor to Latin Plaza Hub and gave them the opportunity of meeting with the Latin American community to share their initiatives on the upcoming elections to take place on November 20th, 2018.
Why is this event so important for the Latin American community?
ExpoPlaza Latina forum started the conversation between politicians and members of the Latin Community for the very first time in Vancouver’s history. The invitation to participate on the Panel was open to all seven candidates from which an impressive 75% accepted. The Candidates to whom we thank their attendance and participation are;
Different from many Latin American political encounters this one was a polite conversation between the contestants. Mario Canseco, President of Research Co. played the role of moderator on this panel, focusing the debate on addressing topics like housing affordability, small business challenges and integration for new Latin American immigrants in the city of Vancouver.
Mayoral Candidates recognized the growing strength of the Latin American Community in Vancouver as well as the importance of having a strong understanding of their needs and concerns. Over 90 guests from Latin American community were present to listen and debate ideas and concerns with the mayoral candidates.
What is ExpoPlaza’s Vision for the future?
ExpoPlaza Latina visualizes this forum as an all year long open space for different events to promote the dialogue and awareness about current business opportunities, with the clear goal to Educate and Guide all newcomers to Vancouver and introduce them into the British Columbia Region.
A good example of this vision being achieved, besides the event, it’s a commitment made by the candidates with Latincouver network, to weekly attend meetings with representatives from the Latin Community (Newcomers, Community leaders and Business Owners), to discuss improvements on how to support and integrate the Latin community in Vancouver. Certainly a good start!
